Governmental Affairs
Edward L. Gilbert Co., LPA provides legal advice to individuals, companies, labor unions, non-profit corporations, and trade associations who deal with government clients and entities. Our attorneys assist clients with lobbyist registration and reporting requirements, "pay-to-play" laws, campaign finance laws, and ethics.
We recognize that it is imperative for our clients to actively engage in the
political process to ensure that government actions are compatible with their business interests. We partner with our clients to provide prompt, reliable advice and thorough compliance administration to oversee our clients' dealings with public officials.
We assist our clients with the preparation and promulgation of bills and regulations, principally at the state level. Unlike consulting firms, our firm has the legal experience and knowledge to know what legislative or administrative language will withstand legal challenges. We also monitor legislation to provide a comprehensive review of legislative or administrative proposals of interest to our clients, and to alert our clients quickly and regularly of legislative or administrative activities that could potentially impact their businesses.
Lobbying
Our firm advises clients when their interactions with public officials trigger lobbying registration. We also review proposed events and expenditures to determine whether they are permissible and/or reportable and advise clients regarding proper disclosure of their lobbying activities.
Campaign Finance
Our firm assists clients who provide direct support for candidates, as well as those who establish PACs, PCEs, ballot issue committees, and Section 527 political organizations.
Ethics
Our firm provides legal advice to clients regarding the laws limiting gifts and honoraria to public officials and employees. We help clients identify restrictions imposed by state and local ethics laws and public agency policies.
